World Events - should they put new stuff in every year?
On Easter Sunday I realised I hadn't done Noblegarden, and then I noticed it was a little later than usual. There was nothing new this year, so the event could be easily ignored - but there are still a few people out there who need the achievements, so a good time for them to catch up.
However, do you think Blizz should put in new stuff for each World Event every year? To keep the people interested?
Back in Vanilla, I wasn't into pets. Back then, pets took up space in your bags and didn't have their own tab! (Why can't they do that for TABARDS??) As a druid, I already had 3 sets of gear in my bags for PvP, resto and feral, so bag space was special then. I remember one year, I didn't do Children's week and then I was spending each year subsequently, trying to catch up because they kept adding new stuff and I wished they would stop so I could stop being a year behind!
Adding loot via World Event dungeons is a nice touch to keep things modern. They did that with Love is in the Air this year. Of course, there is the Big Love Rocket which is ultra rare and people probably still did some of the World Events things to try to get that elusive mount.
Lunar Festival was a bit dull - fireworks are fun, but with no new gear or loots, there was nothing to engage me in it. I'm surprised that there was no addition of Elders of Pandaria achievement - there would be tons of Elders around I'm sure in Pandaland!
I headed over to my favourite egg hunting place - Eversong Woods - and I swear, this year, eggs seem to respawn a lot faster! I let my daughter do the egg hunting - she really liked doing it before, and she ran around collecting eggs until my bags were full. I had to remind her to open the eggs to get chocolate out. I was surprised - this year I probably only did.. maybe 2 hours of running around to get eggs for the mount as a gift, and that was with breaks and letting my daughter have fun getting eggs and turning into a pink bunny. There were even 6-7 people in the area doing eggs as well with that rapid respawn rate! I didn't even bother with the speed basket, there were just so many eggs.
No new Children's week achievements or pets... pooey :( maybe there will be a panda orphan to take around though! Or something cool to do in Pandaria!
I noticed Midsummer has new flames to do in Pandaria for more achieves - yay!
Brewfest will have new trinkets again. And I can try for another mount. Direbrew is always a popular seasonal boss.
Hallow's End will have new rings I'm sure, and I still have no mount so there's still fun to be had there! It's such a fun holiday though, I don't mind participating in a few of the things (like the village or candy buckets).
Pilgrim's won't have anything new I'm sure. They never do!
Winter's Veil always has some new toy to play with, so there will be a FOS there as usual. I thought the jersey was a nice touch a few years ago. And that football from last year was pretty funny. Have you ever stood next to someone while they're throwing or kicking you the ball? It's hilarious!
Personally, I'd like some sort of new achievement for each holiday. It makes you track the years, "Oh yes, I remember that year that I did that!" and I do like achieves :)
Anyway, what's your view? Do you like the seasonal events? Or do you hate them? Do you need something new in it every year to keep you engaged (yes, that's me!)?
At times I think it would be really great if they added an entirely new seasonal / world event. For example like they did for the 2008 summer Olympics.
ReplyDeleteBut yes, it is nice when they tweak the events and fresh them up a bit now and then. :)
I like when they update the holidays but I don't really want every holiday updated every time it comes around. Then you feel like you have to do all those holidays all the time or you will miss something. I don't really know how others feel but for myself it burns me out. Especially when there is event after event. Brewfest, Hallow's Eve, Pilgrims, Winter's Viel, Lunar Festival, Love is in the air, they all come in one right after the other. There's a reason I didn't get the holidays meta in one year. I just needed a break from the holidays.
DeleteI think simple little updates like an extra achievement help keep the interest alive - playing catch up is always hard though so I wouldn't want some really complex achievement every year so that I could never keep up.
DeleteI feel bad I totally didn't even notice Noblegarden. It used to make my husband laugh when I jumped up in the morning to go hunt eggs. I'll probably still do children's week as I enjoy flying around with the orphans visiting places I haven't been for a while.
ReplyDeleteI was like that with the Lunar Festival. Children's week is fun though!
DeletePersonally I like when they don't add something so that I don't feel I have to do it for the achievement/pet/mount/etc that is only available for a limited time. Because I always go overboard and it becomes I have to maximize my chances while avoiding all else. Running the same thing over and over every day during the holiday period on as many toons as I can get eligible just isn't fun. I wish that the rare items would all be changed to the more just time consuming than rng like they did with noblegarden and love is in the air mounts. I don't get why they changed some and left others as rng.
ReplyDeleteWith you and your many toons, it must be exhausting! But for us one toon people, it's not too bad :) I also don't know why they didn't buff some events - perhaps they juts updated the most popular ones?
DeleteI would LOVE LOVE LOVE even one new achievement for each event every year, but that might be me being greedy. I get really excited when they add new Elders for Lunar Festival or Bonfires for Midsummer each expansion. The new Midsummer ones are already in for this year so no waiting til next year for them!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to knocking over each new achievement. Though I'm glad that the Big Love ROcket isn't an achievement - looking at it not completed would drive me crazy!
DeleteI am going to get my kids to do the egg hunting now...$5 per 200 is a pretty good price :)
ReplyDeleteSabre
Heh heh. Come on Sabre you can go better than that - get them to do it for free! Well, that works for me...
DeleteI'd love to see a new achievement every year for each one, just doing something a little different than usual or extending an existing one (like the elders for Lunar Festival/Flames for Summer Festival). Something that people can keep on top of and easily catch up on the next year if they miss one. The achievement would be more like a progress marker than a reward for skill/luck/stupidamountsofgrinding though.
ReplyDeleteAnd then I'd like the occasional real achievement/reward that can only be earned during that time, sort of like the Darkmoon Rabbit achieve/pet.
I totally agree with you about a little different each year!
DeleteYes, most definitely. New pets and mounts, and I was also thinking of an entirely new world event thread altogether would be wonderful. I'm not sure I can do the holiday ones again, but some new project would be wonderful.
ReplyDeleteMaybe not a recurring event, but a once off would be cool! Like... olympics... or... Oh there must be something that's once every 20 years or so!
DeleteI would only go back to do the holiday events if they offered something new, like achievement, pets, mounts or fun items. After getting my Violet Proto-Drake, there really is no reason to go back and do the holidays now that everything it shared among all your alts. I'll farm some of the holiday instances for any armor or weapon upgrades, but only on toons that will get me a quick queue, like a tank or healer. The Love is in the Air event is the only holiday I'll run on as many high-level toons as possible, since the Big Love Rocket is the only holiday mount I have left to get.
ReplyDeleteI have heaps of mounts still to get.... but the one I really would like is the headless Horseman's mount. You're right, after you get the Violet Proto-drake you sorta lose a bit of the drive for it!
