Minipost: December release? Wow, really?

Buzzing around the internet today is the topic of the release date of Warlords of Draenor, after seeing this:

On first look, you see the release date of "on or beore 20 December 2014".  Holy what the!  That's like 9 months away! What the hell are we going to do for 9 months, is what I was thinking. Surely Garrosh will be dead by then on heroic.  And then what?  People are going to unsub till new stuff comes out (unless of course you PvP as Arena seasons will continue) which will kill off raiding- that is if anyone can be bothered. But it makes me wonder what I will be doing, 6 months from now.  I guess I'll find out in 6 months!

Adam Holinsky says that he thinks it will be earlier than that - but I'm not so sure.  I guess though, at least Blizz is saying that it won't be any later than that, but it could be earlier, which at least gives you some reprieve from the fear of recurrent delay of release.

So I went out and got my Deluxe Digital edition just now.  Can't wait to get home and have a look at my new pet and mount.  A stark reminder of how lazy I am when it comes to getting Anzu - which I still haven't been bothered to go back and get.

  1. I pre-ordered the Physical Collectors Box today. I also took that 'on or before' to mean that no real date had been announced other than 'this year'.

  2. I think I will wait a little, I will probably waste my boost on a toon I won't use!

    2. I have never wanted an alt, so I don't quite know what to do with one yet!

  3. Dates will be from late September through to 20 Dec, could be any time between these goal posts. What a huge gulf of time to be wasted elsewhere.

    1. I guess I have a lot of achievements and pet battles to catch up with...

  4. I think this might pose a few problems for Blizz' subscription numbers, even when Warlords releases. I'd expect September/October for the real release date, unless something comes up beforehand.

Then again, by this time people were being let into the beta for Mists for a September 2012 release, so who knows what Blizz is doing? I'd imagine they're hoping that the D3 expac will sell like gangbusters, but I know enough people who were turned off by D3 that I don't think it'll sell as much as they hope.

    1. I guess with D3 coming out they want people to go play that perhaps - they can't focus entirely on one game! And with Hearthstone out too... well there are other Blizzard games out there to entice them, is what I'm thinking. Blizz wants us to play their games. So give everyone some time to play them!

  5. I will make myself available for raiding Navi.

  6. I suspect Blizzard know they can't compete with the titles coming out during the year, such as TESO and WildStar. As much as it suuuuuuuuucks for raiders who will have to endure Dragon Soul 2.0, it's a smart move on Blizzard's behalf -- release pre-purchases now and lock in people's money, then wait until people have gotten the shiny new MMO's out of their system before dropping a nice new expansion just in time for Christmas (Or, as I'm secretly hoping, the 10 year anniversary of WoW). Not ideal, but it makes sense.

    1. I think it makes sense - after all, the diehards will still play and a lot of us have locked in the cash now anyway. For an expansion that hasn't come yet, Blizz is cashing in already!

  7. Yeah, I'll have to take a loooong time leveling my new little pet, lol. I think I picked a November release in Godmother's pool. I thought by being negative it might push it earlier, I guess not.
