Long Weekends - Good for Real Life, Bad for WoW Life

A few days with no posts!

It's been a busy weekend - I was on call for two of them and got called into work both days so that ruined my plans for long hours of WoW with my friends.   My PvP night got cancelled as I was stuck at work till 130am but at least we capped for the week doing arenas later on.

Is it just me or is the Isle really boring now?  I struggle to drag myself there, and farm pets and achievements and I can't even get a Celestial every week unless I go in early on Tuesdays.  While I was at work babysitting a sick patient waiting for an ICU bed I did my Celestial Tournament - I had atrocious luck and would get through a battle easily then lose a pet in the next and have to start again, and then I would stuff up the pet battle I had cruised through earlier!  I had a dreadful time with Xu-Fu - I tried the triple Zandalari Leg attacking dino team, and they did NOT do well, even after multiple goes.  I had to fall back on the triple mechanical team which also had mishaps with Shock and Awe missing on two different goes which made me tear at my hair in frustration as I had to start all over again.

This weekend we also had daylight savings hit - Queensland is one of the states that doesn't have daylight savings, so come Sunday night, there was some confusion about what time raid started.  Unfortunately I had a party on (20 year reunion!! OMG I am feeling old!) so I couldn't do my flex raid and it turned out we didn't raid after all that.  I was disappointed for all those people that would have gone - people like James, who is still new to the whole PvE thing, and Luxy had a friend who was going to come but now she's Flexing with others.  I had even convinced Sabre to log on Sunday and there was no raid - I felt like a huge party pooper!

Long weekends are also times people go away or have visitors, and that took a few of our raiders out of the picture.  In Sydney this weekend we had the International Fleet Review, as it was the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Austalian Naval fleet.  I wasn't very excited about it, to tell you the truth, as I'm not into battleships and armed forces stuff, but my kids love planes, boats and outings to the city AND there were some plans for spectacular light shows and fireworks in the harbour that would rival the New Year's Fireworks.

We had a seat near here, just at the base of the Harbour Bridge.
We went for the aerial display and my poor son was frightened by the fighter jet!  So I decided that he would not cope with the fireworks and we went home so we could watch the fireworks at home.  Crowds were massive by then too.  Since Vivid Sydney, the use of the Sydney Opera House as a white screen for projections to be displayed is becoming more popular and the presentation of Australia's Naval history was BETTER in my opinion than Vivid.  There weren't that many fireworks, but I much preferred the visual displays and the music - the music selection was era specific and I am a fan of Holst's The Planets and Mars was a good wartime selection for music (but I think I was the only one who liked it!)

Naval ships with fireworks going off on them?  That was pretty cool.

So after the fireworks I put the kids to bed and then finished capping conquest points with Sev and Shab.- I'll talk about those in a PvP post so I don't have to bore people with PvP details!

I have so much blog reading to catch up on!  And it took me until Tuesday until I was able to even SEE Moonfang, but I did make an effort - thank goodness it's on a 1 hour respawn much like the rares on the Isle.  So many things to do and not enough time to do it!

I did have a good laugh when I read Luxy's latest comic for The Faily Frostwolf - another in-joke but it was very typical of the ridiculous nooby things we do as a guild.

  3. I agree, the Opera House looks brilliant with projections on it - a very clever idea too. Two of my old uni housemates have just arrived in Sydney (on Saturday I think) so I'll be able to ask them if they went and impress them with my awesome knowledge of international events ;)
